Sports in Education

Sports are an important part of education. They help in the development of the physique and mind of the students. A sound body possesses a sound mind. Mere bookish knowledge would not head lead to proper development of body.

Sports inculcate in us the duty of loyalty. They teach us to take victory and defeat alike. They broaden our outlook. The foundation for a virtuous life is laid in school. If at an early age a student develops the taste for studies and sports in a proper way, he can become an ideal citizen in his later life. The sports arena teaches many things to students. It gives discipline. It develops their sportsman spirit, mental outlook, cheerful nature, sense of humor and strong physique. All these are important traits of a successful life. Gandhiji said, “Physical training should have as much place in curriculum as mental training”

The Secrets To Happiness

Happiness is a kind of enigma. It is difficult to define what is happiness. If we run after it, we may never get it. We can’t buy it with money. When we enjoyed it, we may not realize it. Possessions and riches never translate into happiness. Our expectation of happiness is very different from our experience. It is also true that there is great happiness in anticipation, than in experiencing it.

Bertrand Russel says that man has physical and mental need. Satisfying basic physical needs may not bring great happiness at all. However, satisfying mental and emotional needs may bring some happiness, though they may not have much to do with money and wealth. Certainly, greed never made any happy. Man being a social being, can be happy when he shares his happiness with others. Sympathy, empathy, care, consideration and respect for all living beings, bring us loads of happiness. Power, money and vanity bring us only false superiority. One without worries and negative emotions is certainly happy.

A sense of detachment and contemplation is a precursor to happiness. A sense of worth and self esteem, high moral values and enjoying the work, we do certainly contribute to our happiness.
